Salty Dolphin Cottage

Welcome to the Salty Dolphin, a one-bedroom riverfront cottage on the St. Johns in Jacksonville, where the river meets the Intracoastal. The water is the whole point of the place. White-railed decks look straight out over the river, a boardwalk runs down through the palms to a dock with a covered platform at the end, and the grounds carry a pool, a fire pit and a hammock.

Inside, the cottage is one bright, open room under a vaulted ceiling — a full kitchen with a breakfast bar at one end, a dining table in the middle and a living room at the other, with a queen-size pull-out sofa. A second room opens through French doors straight onto the upstairs river deck, so the water is in view from almost everywhere you sit. The cottage sleeps five.

It is a working stretch of river, and that is half the pleasure of it. Guests watch dolphins from the decks and the dock, sailboats tack past in the afternoon, and after dark the cruise ships pass lit end to end on their way out to sea. You can fish straight from the property, and the Atlantic is about three miles away.

Please note: there are two houses on this property, and the pool and the dock are shared between them. They are not for the exclusive use of the cottage.

It is a convenient base as well as a quiet one — close to Jacksonville International Airport, the Mayport Ferry, the Ribault Club and downtown Jacksonville, with Amelia Island up the coast.

Guests have the cottage to themselves and the run of the riverfront grounds, including the pool, the dock, the decks and the fire pit. There are two houses on this property: the pool and the dock are shared with the neighbouring house, so please expect to share them. Check-in is from 4:00 PM and check-out is at 10:00 AM. Children and infants are welcome. This is a non-smoking property, pets are not permitted, and it is not set up for events or parties. Quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
