Ohana Beach House

Welcome to the Ohana Beach House, a two-storey coastal home standing under a canopy of live oaks a short walk from the Atlantic in Vilano Beach, just north of St. Augustine. Deep covered porches run along the ground floor, lined with rocking chairs and looking out into the oaks and palmettos — the kind of porch that decides how the whole week goes.

Round the back, a paver courtyard gathers everything a big group needs in one place: a hot tub, a stone fire pit ringed with white Adirondack chairs, a pergola over a long timber dining table, a porch swing, a gas grill and an outdoor shower for rinsing the sand off before anyone comes inside. The house sleeps twelve across four bedrooms, so it takes a large family or two or three couples travelling together without anyone drawing the short straw.

The ground floor is one long, light room under a vaulted ceiling: a white kitchen with an island and a range hood at one end, a dining table in the middle and a deep leather-and-linen living room at the other, with glazed doors out to the porch. Bedrooms are split across both floors so the group spreads out rather than stacking up.

The back courtyard is the centre of the house in every season. The pergola shades a long dining table and a lounge; the hot tub sits beside it against a screened fence; the fire pit is set a little further out in the oaks, ringed with white Adirondack chairs. There is a gas grill, a porch swing, and an outdoor shower on the side of the house.

The Porches

Covered porches run along the ground floor front and back, floored in pavers and roofed in warm timber, with ceiling fans and rocking chairs. They stay usable in the middle of a Florida afternoon, which is more than can be said for most back yards in August.

Check-in is from 4:00 PM and check-out is at 10:00 AM. This is a non-smoking home, pets are not permitted, and it is not set up for events or parties.
